Spiritual Art? A connection with the divine

Spiritual ArtI’ve always liked to doodle and I painted a lot as a child.  BC (Before Children) I even took a watercolor art class after work for several weeks once.

Then I stopped (something to do with two small children, living in 4 States in 11 years, so on and so forth).

I came back into the world of expressing our energy through art via a course with a Shaman, where during a form of guided meditation called a journey, we were asked to find our personal symbol of the Creator, God, consciousness, enter your word here _______________.

She gave us all a blank piece of paper and some crayons.  Then she started drumming (which is how a person journeys), we laid down and closed our eyes.

As soon as I started the journey, I saw the eye of a whale blinking at me.  Almost immediately, the eye morphed into the eye of a seal, a dolphin, and then at very fast speed every single eye of pretty much every creature on this planet who has eyes, including us!

It was a very moving and deep experience.

The Shaman bought us back out of the journey, but not completely, so that we could sit up and draw our personal symbol of the creator.  So mine is the eye.

Using Spiritual Art to bring through deeper meaning

When I reflected on my symbol of the creator, I realized that for me the eye is symbolic because it represents consciousness and awareness, and is a part of our bodies that is directly connected to the brain – literally.

Spiritual art can be very powerful.

Irridologists can tell us much about our health through the study of the eyes, as can optometrists.  I also notice a change in state when working with clients through the energy radiating from their eyes.

It’s hard to find the origin of that very old quote “The eyes are the windows to the soul“.

I like this one too from the great Ralph Waldo Emerson “The eyes indicate the antiquity of the soul“.

You don’t have to be Picasso or give up your day job to enjoy Spiritual Art

spiritual artSo perhaps you are interested in adding Spiritual Art to your spiritual practice?

The trick for me is to see the art as a means rather than an end.

If you do end up with a picture you’d like to frame (or share on Facebook!) then great – you’ll be sharing your insights and good energy – but it’s not a requirement.

Yesterday I sat down with my girls while they were drawing, put on a little Kate Bush (dated I know, but Callie likes to dance to it!) and let rip with a pad of paper and some pens from Target.

For some reason I drew the whale eye again (which is why I decided to write this post)…plus some dolphins gamboling about.  I had fun, and so did the girls.

Now I need to figure out what this Spiritual Art means…what’s your interpretation?  🙂
