Juicing for health

Juicing for health – one woman’s take on how to start juicing from Sarah at Mom On A Spiritual Journey

Juicing for health

Adding more ingredients in week 2

Juicing for health IS actually easier than I thought.  When it came to giving up caffeine a while back, I thought that was going to be difficult too, but it was relatively painless since I had left giving up caffeine until the consumption of it was more painful than letting it go.

In the past I’ve used the lemonade cleanse a few times and really liked it.  Now I’m a woman of ‘a certain age’, experiencing perimenopause and heading towards the transition of menopause, my body has been struggling in a number of ways, so I finally decided it was time to give juicing for health a try.  (Yes, yes, I know what Yoda says about trying etc.).

Start out juicing for health slowly and notice what works for you

My stomach can be sensitive at the best of times, and I’m a mom of two active girls age 10 and 9, so I was concerned about a juicing regimen and the ‘detox’ effect that some people talk about when juicing for health taking me down.  Don’t have time or other resources for that, frankly.

So I didn’t make it a ‘regimen’ or a ‘diet’, I just started juicing for health.

Now I’ll admit that in the intuitive stakes I have a bit of an advantage over some moms, in that I’m able to use my intuitive guidance for personal and professional means.

In this case, during my recent visit to Sedona for the Kryon Summerlight conference, I had been suffering from body pains and some swelling in the ankles.  (I’ve had everything checked out by the way so no known medical reasons for this).

My intuitive or inner voice was insistent on the flight home that I ‘start juicing celery’.  I ignored it!  Sometimes it takes a while to get started on something new, even when it’s good for us…

Juicing for health – why celery is a great option for me

Being a dutiful energy worker though, I decided it was probably worth checking out why celery would be a good thing in my case.  Juicing for Health, the web site, states

Celery leaves has high content of vitamin A, whilst the stems are an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C with rich supplies of potassium, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, sodium and plenty essential amino acids.

Nutrients in the fiber are released during juicing, aiding bowel movements. The natural organic sodium (salt) in celery is very safe for consumption, in fact is essential for the body. Even individuals who are salt-sensitive can safely take the sodium in celery, unlike table salt (iodised sodium) which is harmful for those with high blood pressure.

While many foods lose nutrients during cooking, most of the compounds in celery hold up well during cooking.

The article also states many other benefits of celery juice, including weight loss, helping balance body salts, cholesterol and as a workout tonic.  And most important for me, I LIKE celery.

Now I’m juicing for health almost every day and celery is always in the mix

Juicing for healthI started juicing for health with this recipe, which I really like and get excited about making!  In my case all fruits/veggies are organic.  Buy those if you can since IMHO they taste better and are better for you.

2 sticks celery chopped up

juice of 1 lemon (reamed so that the ‘bits’ are in the juice too, see pic)

juice of 1 orange, reamed also for same reason

1 whole apple, de-seeded and chopped up

1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper (I like the kick, not everybody does).

I love it and have noticed a number of health benefits so far.  I stick the whole thing in my large Ninja jug and pulse it to oblivion.

My mom-in-law bought it for me last Christmas and I confess, I hadn’t used it much.  Since our recent house move though, I’ve reorganized the kitchen and out it came.  I really like it and use it for chopping onions now too on MIL’s advice.

Disclaimer:  I have no connection with the company that manufactures the Ninja product…but I may approach them and see if they’d like to do a giveaway! 😉

  • Now I’m juicing for health, I have more energy, energy lasts longer and I don’t have the dreaded energy ‘drop’ in the afternoon
  • I’m eating more healthily overall and starting to crave more fruits and veggies
  • my daughters want to start having fruit smoothies where before they weren’t interested (guess it’s true, what I do IS more important than what I say)
    Juicing for health

    Yummm…!

  • My ankles are much, much better
  • I have much less body pain
  • and – I love juicing for health!

Juicing every day is a great idea…I do it for months… I use a different recipe though, but I’ll add some celery from now on…Thanks!

  2. Hi Sarah the last couple years my family has been getting more and more into juicing. Basically we can’t go a day without making a juice a sharing with everyone (me, my wife and 21 month old son). My son loves it, even the green juices that aren’t as sweet, because he is used to it now.

May I suggest one ingredient to your recipe – Ginger! Try a couple small slices of ginger root – gives a kick and ginger has great health benefits too. 🙂

  3. Hi Eric,

That sounds interesting and tasty. Also good for this time of the year methinks (flu and cold season). Will experiment, thanks! Off to read your article on the course we just attended now.

    Cheers and thanks for visiting

Life has become hectic with the lifestyles that we have today. We humans tend to forget the importance of health, it is important that you should make an effort to make a change in your eating habits. I love the fact that you stress on the importance of juicing in life, it is an instance stress booster and enhances stamina in no time.

  5. Parsley is also a really nice addition to all of the above.
    🙂

  6. […] somebody mentioned a new book to you 3 times…perhaps it’s time to read it, or a new supplement or juice?  Whatever it is, take note…this is […]
