Eat More Kale vs Chick-Fil-A | How about a right-brained solution instead of overlawyering it?
Eat More Kale vs Chick-Fil-A – and new restaurant opens in Wichita
If you have ever eaten at Chick-Fil-A or seen their advertisements, you’ll know that they use cows saving themselves from being eaten to suggest we buy more chicken with their ‘Eat More Chikin’ campaign.
But have you heard of Eat More Kale? And are you likely to confuse it with chicken, oh, sorry, ‘chikin’?
Update: Here’s an excerpt from the documentary in progress Kickstarter.com. Click the link to contribute.
Fast food corporation Chick-Fil-A seem to think so. Ridiculous, really. Here’s a video link to the full scoop from Anderson Cooper on CNN as he adds this case to his RidicuList.
The Eat More Kale Guy from Montpelier, Vermont
Several years ago Bo (pictured) decided to start making t-shirts from his garage to support his family. He creates his designs on ‘earthy colors and soft, thick cotton’ and creates them with a hand-cut stencil and a squeegee.
His first ever t-shirt just said ‘cheese’ which made a lot of people laugh at local markets and his business started to grow. So to support local Farmer’s markets he came up with the ‘Eat More Kale‘ design.
A few years ago now Chick-Fil-A tried to file a cease and desist order against Bo, but he got a lawyer and blocked it.
Now they’re trying again, much harder, because they think the general public will be confused by the ‘Eat More Kale’ design and confuse it with their marketing.
Bo’s business is doing well and you can buy his Eat More Kale t-shirts online at www.eatmorekale.com.
Update: Eat More Kale vs Chick-Fil-A movie as of 23rd March 2012
Bo has reached his $75,000 goal on Kickstarter.com and now has a movie to make!
Chick-Fil-A – I would rather Eat More Kale than Eat Your Chikin until you cease and desist
I’ve been a Chick-Fil-A customer in the past, but I have to say this particular case with Bo kind of leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.
Are Chick-Fil-A really in such a bad place with their business that they need to stop a guy making Eat More Kale t-shirts in his garage in Vermont?
Expansion and growth of ideas is how we have all turned into, dare I say it, a civilization?
As Anderson Cooper says in his video, Chick-Fil-A claim to ‘have invented the chicken sandwich’. Really?
I doubt they could prove the veracity of this statement in court, but most other people on this planet don’t have the time, energy or resources to sue them for it.
How about a creative solution between Eat More Kale.com and Chick-Fil-A?
I’m sure there are many more ways to mend the Eat More Kale debate than the heavy-handed over-lawyering that is going on right now.
I took a moment to think about it and came up with Eat More Kale Chips. They could even sell them in Chick-Fil-A as a healthy option with their ‘chikin’.
They could even coordinate a campaign with Bo…oh, but there I go with my Unity Consciousness thinking…many business are not ready to be that accountable yet.
Surely this corporate bullying incident is showing Chick-Fil-A up in a bad light more than protecting their business. If they want to be a forward-looking company, they need to be shifting to sustainable and more organic products as part of their marketing plan.
What a perfect opportunity they are missing out on with their old-fashioned approach.
What can we do to support the Eat More Kale guy?
At this stage Chick-Fil-A are not backing down.
You can visit change.org to sign Bo’s petition, or KickStarter.com to contribute to a film he is making about this whole process.
This could happen to any small business owner, anytime (and apparently, it’s happening to Bo repeatedly).
Are you going to wait until it happens to one of you or yours before we change this energy?
Until then, I’m going to Eat More Kale.
